Welcome to You Should Know!

You Should Know is for women over 40 who want to be in charge of their sexual health, especially women who are new again to the dating scene. Getting back into things can be fun: by now we know that sexuality comes in many shapes and forms and sex is more than the mechanics. But dealing with the face to face discussions of sexual histories, safe sex, and condom use might not be easy (especially if it’s been a while and we need to brush up our knowledge of STIs). That’s what this site and blog are about.

Many thanks to the women who participated in the survey that helped in the development of the information on this site. Their input helped me figure out some of the directions to take.  Do write, share your thoughts and resources, and help create a community of healthy sexuality and communication. Sexually transmitted infections (STI’s, aka STDs) don’t just strike the young, and we need information to look after ourselves.

This blog and the material on this site is written by me, forty-something Communications Coordinator at Positive Women’s Network (the organization behind the curtain). Information is reviewed by medical and social service professionals. Youshouldknow.ca aims to promote health and prevent STI infection through education, information sharing and community building.  Chime in!
